Day 1 July 6, 2021 | Home to Galena, IL

Heading East today to Galena, you’ll tour the 1854 Wapsipinicon Mill in Independence, IA, followed by the Lowell and Agnes Walter Estate in Cedar Rock State Park. The Walter Estate includes a signature Frank Lloyd Wright home.

Day 2 July 7, 2021 | Galena, IL

The day begins with a guided tour of the Ulysses S. Grant Home, followed by a tour and presentation at The Old Blacksmith Shop. Following lunch, you’ll tour the Galena & US Grant Museum with genuine artifacts from Grant’s presidency. Later this afternoon, embark on a Galena Gourmet Food Tour featuring up to eight different establishments, including Durty Gurts, Fried Green Tomatoes, Root Beer Revelry, and more. Colorful stories and history fill the evening on your Haunted Galena Guided Tour.

Day 3 July 8, 2021 | Galena, IL to Dixon, IL

Taking to the back roads today, you’ll stop in Elizabeth, IL, to tour the Apple River Fort followed by some free time to shop at Three Sisters Sweet Shoppe, Dittmar Orchard Station, and more. In Dixon, there is a guided tour of the Northwest Territory Historic Center featuring an Abraham Lincoln History Room, President Reagan History Room, restored “Dutch” Reagan classroom, and more. You will then tour the Ronald Reagan Boyhood Home and learn about his childhood in Dixon, Illinois.

Day 4 July 9, 2021 | Dixon, IL to Clinton, IA

This morning you’ll enjoy a guided tour of the John Deere Historic Site where you can relive history when John Deere created the first commercial steel plow. In Sterling, you’ll have a guided tour of the historic Dillon Home and Museum, built in 1858 and filled with original treasures and virtually untouched by time. In Fulton, explore at your leisure Heritage Canyon, a 12-acre park with authentic buildings and furnishings dating from the mid-1800s.

Day 5 July 10, 2021 | Clinton, IA to Waterloo, IA

Before leaving Fulton, you’ll have a guided tour of de Immigrant Windmill and Windmill Cultural Center. In Cedar Rapids, celebrate Czech and Slovak life with a guided tour of the National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library, complete with coffee and kolaches!

Day 6 July 11, 2021 | Waterloo, IA to Home

Lunch today will be at the Hawkeye Buffalo Ranch & Store, complete with a guided tour of the ranch and an opportunity to hand-feed their buffalo herd! Just down the road, tour the Little Brown Church in the Vale, the inspiration for the famous song, “The Church in the Wildwood.”
